Many people think Barcelona was reborn as a new city after the 1992 Olympics. Truth to be said, this Roman city became much better known after having the spotlight on it, as well as after several years of urban transformation. Only last year, more than 5 million people gave it a chance, meaning a 5% increase in comparison with the year before. The fact is that Barcelona is an amazing, colourful city, which does not disappoint anyone.
Getting bored in Barcelona is really difficult, since the city offers several things to do, for all tastes: from cultural activities to sports events, without forgetting its crowded shopping streets and popular areas. Undoubtedly, you will enjoy loosing yourself while admiring important architect Gaudí monuments such as La Sagrada Família, La Pedrera o La Casa Batlló, or while walking through Les Rambles. Furthermore, you will be able to gaze at beautiful sea sights from the Port Olimpic or at fascinating city views from El Parc Güell or El Tibidabo. El Palau de la Música Catalana or Plaça Catalunya are also important touristic attractions where it is easy to find nearby accommodation.
Accommodation in Barcelona is mostly gathered at the districts which are closer to the sea and most crowded by tourists, such as Ciutat Vella or L’Eixample and Sagrada Familia, respectively. The city offers a wide range of hosting possibilities and hotels, apartments, guests houses or hostels abound in the city. Barcelona is not an extremely expensive place but, as everywhere, areas with touristic attractions are more expensive than others. Besides, Barcelona is a city where it is quite easy to find a luxurious, expensive hotel room, but there are also many affordable rooms which need a little deeper research. In fact, there are very good bids at some guests houses, where you can have a room for around 30€/night. This kind of accommodation is quite advisable, but what can be extremely cheap are hostels. Of course, if you wish to find bids, you need to look for them at the appropriate area, avoiding districts such as Sarrià- St. Gervasi and some typically touristic zones. But, if you look for them patiently, you will find rooms for around 10€/night which offer basic services like free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, air-conditioned or terrace with city views.
If you really want to visit Barcelona, do not worry about picking a well placed hotel at an affordable price. Barcelona is excellently connected thanks to its buses and its underground, so prioritise your needs and enjoy the city!
